Research Methodology – Syllabus and Scheme of Examination, XIME, Jan- April, 2009

Objective :

To equip the students with the required knowledge to carry out independent research in physical and social sciences areas. Students will acquire necessary skills to understand the theory and the tools and processes used to collect, record and document relevant data / information, the statistical fundamentals of the methods of analysis and usage of computer software. Students will also learn skills to prepare effective reports. The knowledge of tools and methods so gained will help them in carrying out independent research to collect information for managerial decision making in future as also to execute the Summer Project very effectively.

Main Topics :

1. Introduction to Business research
Overview of steps in Research, Request For Proposal, Ethics in Business Research, cases.
2. Design of Business Research
Exploratory, Descriptive and Causal Studies, Qualitative Research, Observation Studies, Surveys, Experiments
3. Sources and Collection of Data
Types - Measurement, Measurement scales, Design of Questionnaires, Sampling
4. Analysis and Presentation of Data
Exploring, displaying and examining data, Hypothesis Testing, Errors, One sample, two sample, k sample, parametric and non-parametric tests, ANOVA, Measures of Association, Research Report – components, Cases of wrongly carried research.
